Why some of the Tottenham players fear Antonio Conte could quit the club next month

Tottenham fall short again

It was a case of history repeating itself as Tottenham failed to make it to a final yet again, meaning in all liklihood yet another year trophyless, despite two seasons under serial winning coaches.

Their performance against Chelsea at home was better than the first leg, but in truth it could not get much worse, and Antonio Conte remained a frustrated figure on the touchline.

And, he has now several times questioned the level of his side in quite staggering circumstances, seemingly demanding changes. But what if they do not come?

Could Conte walk?

Now, chief Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football.London Alasdair Gold has revealed that, worryingly, some of Conte’s own players fear that he could walk come the end of the January transfer window:

“football.london understands that some of the Tottenham players fear Conte could walk next month if he is not backed with new signings to improve the squad during the remainder of this January transfer window.”

However, this seems unlikely. As per the same report:

“Following what has been described by all sides as a very honest and positive meeting on Monday between Conte and other members of Spurs’ hierarchy, including Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici, there is little fear within the club of such an immediate departure.”

With Nuno Espirito Santo only lasting 17 matches in charge, will Conte survive longer? Or will the Tottenham affect take a hold of him too?
