Newcastle table 22.5 million pound bid for World Cup winning defender

Newcastle to wrap up deal for Kieran Trippier

In a month where plenty needs to be done on Tyneside, Newcastle have completed their first deal in the first week, agreeing a fee with Atletico Madrid to bring veteran defender Kieran Trippier to the club.

And the business will certainly not stop there, with bids for more defenders, a midfielder and another forward all expected to be lodged this January, as the club look to build a side capable of avoiding relegation this season and building upon the one win that they have achieved thus far this campaign.

And now, news of another bid has been forthcoming.

22.5 million pound bid submitted

Now, as per the Telegraph, Newcastle have lodged a 22.5 million pound bid for a World Cup winning defender. The man in question? Everton’s Lucas Digne.

The defender is out of favour at Everton, and has been since a falling out with Everton boss Rafa Benitez in December, and is set to depart Goodison Park this transfer window.

However, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that the Frenchman will not be joining the relegation candidates this January, claiming that “he has different plans”.

Will Newcastle be able to convince him to change his plans?
