Everton fans single Doucoure out for praise after Burnley comeback win

Everton’s wide-men steal the show in comeback Burnley win, but Toffees fans single another star out for special praise

The Everton faithful have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to heap praise on midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Townsend back on song

Rafael Benitez’s men of course got their campaign back underway a short time ago.

In the final fixture of the Premier League gameweek, the Toffees welcomed Burnley to Goodison Park, aiming to join Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United atop the Englisht top-flight table.

And, when all was said and done on Monday, this is precisely what Everton managed, courtesy of a 3-1 victory

After an altogether dismal opening 45 minutes, the clash exploded into action following the interval.

Burnley opened the game’s scoring, when Ben Mee nodded home Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson’s pinpoint delivery from the right with 53 minutes on the clock.

From here, though, Everton simply took over.

First, another fine whipped cross this time saw Andros Townsend tee up Michael Keane’s header, before the former turned goalscorer in spectacular fashion, lashing home a dipping finish from 25 yards:

And the evening’s scoring was rounded out just minutes later, when Demarai Gray latched onto Abdoulaye Doucoure’s defence-splitting pass to slot confidently beyond Nick Pope.

‘Gargantuan’

In turn, on the back of another impressive evening’s work for Everton, it has since come as little surprise to see the names of the club’s two wide-men – Townsend and Gray – steal the headlines.

As outlined above, however, it is in fact another member of Rafael Benitez’s squad whom the Blues faithful have been keen to lavish praise on.

The player in question? Abdoulaye Doucoure.

French midfielder Doucoure has looked a man reborn over the early weeks of the new season, patrolling Everton’s ranks in the middle of the park with equal grit and guile.

And it was the latter of these traits which proved central to his side’s turnaround on Monday, with the former Watford man having teed up not one, but two of the hosts’ goals.

The Doucoure love-in, as a result, has since gotten well underway, with just some of the social media highlights showcased below:
