Ben White surpassed a Luiz tally for the whole of 2020/21 vs Norwich

Arsenal summer addition Ben White’s abilities on the ball were highlighted by an impressive statistic on the back of the club’s meeting with Norwich City.

Auba on target

Mikel Arteta’s men returned to action this past weekend.

In the club’s first outing on the back of the international break, the Gunners welcomed Norwich to the Emirates, for a bottom-of-the-table clash.

Arsenal headed into proceedings aware that nothing but three points would suffice, after slipping to a trio of defeats in their first three outings of the campaign.

And, when all was said and done in North London, get the club’s first win of the season on the board is precisely what the hosts, just, managed.

A hard-fought affair, during which it looked at times as though Arsenal would never manage an opener, eventually saw the game’s telling moment arrive 20 minutes into the 2nd-half.

After a remarkable sequence of events saw Nicolas Pepe hit not one, but both posts, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to slot home Arsenal’s first Premier League goal of the campaign, sealing victory in the process:

White impressing

In the aftermath of Arsenal’s long-awaited first win of the season, meanwhile, a number of Mikel Arteta’s stars have since been singled out for praise.

The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Sambi Lokonga both thoroughly impressed versus Norwich, with Takehiro Tomiyasu having enjoyed an impressive debut outing, too.

As outlined above, though, it is in fact one of those to have already come in for considerable criticism this season whose statistical output on Saturday have now begun to catch the eye.

The player in question? Ben White.

On the back of an altogether underwhelming bow in Arsenal’s colours versus Brentford in the opening game of the season, big-money summer arrival White was utilised from the off once again versus Norwich, after recovering from a bout of Covid-19.

And though White’s defensive stats were not worthy of specific mention, his efforts on the ball proved hugely encouraging.

This comes with the ex-Brighton standout having managed to complete no fewer than three key passes over the course of the 90 minutes versus Norwich.

In comparison, David Luiz – whom White has essentially replaced in Mikel Arteta’s backline as a deep-lying outlet to set attacks in motion – managed just two in the Premier League across the entirety of last season.
