Townsend makes Demarai Gray transfer admission Everton fans will love

Gray struggling

Demarai Gray would be signed by Leicester City in 2016 after impressing with Birmingham.

Gray had a lot of promise but failed to deliver during his stint with the Foxes, scoring 13 goals and assisting 17 in 169 outings.

The winger would then be sold to Bayer Leverkusen for just £1.8m during the last January window.

Gray did not have much luck in Germany either, scoring just one and assisting two in 12 outings.

Then, despite only joining in January, Leverkusen shipped Gray off to Everton over the summer.

‘Bargain of the season

The reported £1.7m transfer fee was pretty low, and it was Everton’s only transfer outlay this summer, with the remainder of their signings joining on frees.

And after setting the Toffees back less than £2m, Gray so far looks to be proving a very smart bit of business.

The 25-year-old has scored two in his first three league outings of the season, with his showings also earning him a Premier League Player of the Month nomination:

Now, in a recent interview, Everton teammate Andros Townsend has been heaping praise on Gray, labelling him as probably the bargain of the season:

“He’s the player that I remember playing against at Leicester City. I don’t know what happened in between but he’s a special, special talent.

“We saw that when he was coming through, maybe he lost his way a bit but he’s back now and he’s showing us the player that was tipped for big things and at £1.5million, it looks like probably the bargain of the season, so listen, we’ve had a right touch.

“The manager, the way he is, he won’t let him get carried away, he won’t let him rest on his laurels. He’ll keep drumming into him the core basics of football and what he wants him to do on a daily basis.

“I think Demarai has got the right manager at this stage of his career to get the best out of him.”
