Spanish debutant linked with Liverpool interest scores on full national debut

Carlos Soler scores on international debut

Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler is in dreamland after what has been a sensational start to the 2021-22 season for him.

Born and bred in the city that bears the same name as the province it governs, Soler has long been vital at club level for Los murciélagos since breaking into the first-team set up at the Mestalla Stadium in 2016 after coming through the academy ranks.

But it was last season in the 2020-21 La Liga campaign that saw him reach another level in what was his fifth top-flight season in La Liga, scoring 11-goals in 32-appearances. On the back of last term, Soler has continued that red hot form and was rewarded with not only inclusion in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for their World Cup qualifying campaign but a start against Sweden last night in a full debut.

Lining up in a midfield trio with Atlético Madrid’s Koké, and Barcelona icon Sergio Busquets, Soler put La Roja ahead after just five minutes but was unable to help the Iberian side past a determined Blågult that fought back to earn a valuable 2-1 win at Friends Arena.

Four goals in his first four combined appearances this season for club and country is evidence that Soler could be on his way to big things this season, which could well include an eventual Premier League move in the not-so-distant future.

Liverpool linked with interest

To say that Liverpool may have not done enough in the transfer market for the second summer in a row would be putting it mildly after the Reds secured just RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konaté as their only piece of business during the transfer window.

But there may be movement on that front for boss Jürgen Klopp, with Liverpool today being linked with interest in Soler as mentioned by Empire of the Kop while citing Spanish outlet Fichajes.

A versatile midfielder that will add goals through the middle of the park, Soler would constitute a long-term solution for Klopp as he contends with the uncertain futures of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and the poor injury record of Naby Keita.

Currently valued at £34million (per Transfermarkt) and still just 24-years-old, Soler would certainly be one for Liverpool to keep tabs on if they are to try to improve the overall squad makeup as they try to hunt down their closest domestic rivals.
