Wizards interview Sam Cassell for head coach

The Washington Wizards interviewed Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell for their head coach vacancy today, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.

Cassell, who finished his first season with the 76ers, was previously an assistant with the Wizards from 2009-2014.

The 51-year-old was also an assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2014-2020.

Cassell and Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. have been mentioned as the frontrunners for the Wizards’ job.

If Cassell ultimately lands a head coaching job, it will be his first time as a head coach.
