Heung-min Son opens up on Mourinho’s Spurs departure: ‘It’s so sad. He’s the guy that wins everything’

Tottenham star Heung-min Son has, on Tuesday, opened up on his emotional response to Jose Mourinho’s departure from the club.

Mou dismissed

Amid the widespread turmoil surrounding all matters Super League-related, one story slipped somewhat under the radar in England last month.

This of course came in the form of Tottenham’s decision to part ways with Jose Mourinho.

On the back of yet another damaging pair of points dropped at Everton, the board in north London came to the decision that the Portuguese no longer represented the right man to lead them forward.

In turn, an official statement regarding the matter was released on Monday, April 19th:

‘Still be one of the best’

Remarkably, though, just two weeks later, Mourinho has already secured a new job in management.

As per an official club announcement this afternoon, the Portuguese is set to take up the reins at Serie A outfit AS Roma this summer, following the departure of Paulo Fonseca:

The swift nature of Mou’s latest move means that, despite his future in the Italian capital now being set in stone, some in north London are actually yet to fully come to terms with the surprising timing of his exit.

One such individual, meanwhile, is Heung-min Son.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Monday, Tottenham standout Son was drawn on Mourinho’s dismissal, with the South Korean having gone on to reveal his ‘sadness’ with the decision:

‘It is always sad if someone loses their job.’

‘I also don’t want to talk about it too much, I was working with him for 18 months.’

‘It’s been up and down. It’s been good, sometimes we’ve been not so good.’

The attacker continued:

‘For me and for my memory, he will still be one of the best managers in the world.’

‘It’s just so sad that he went without the success, it was really sad because he’s the guy that wins everything. This is the only team that he didn’t have success with so I feel really, really sorry about this kind of thing.’

‘But he will still be in my memories as he is one of the best managers in the world.’
