A variety of reasons for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s separation have been reported in media outlets over the past couple days. But don’t mistake Cyrus’ fling with Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter as proof she’s over Hemsworth. She’s actually really struggling, People reports.
“They have a long history together, and that’s a huge part of why she has a hard time letting him go,” a source close to Cyrus told the outlet. (Hemsworth and Cyrus have been one-off for 10 years.) “At the end of the day, she wants to be happy, and she genuinely wants Liam to be happy too.”
According to the outlet, multiple sources agreed that her and Hemsworth’s relationship prior to their split was “unhealthy” and that the separation “is for the best” right now.
The struggle is mutual, at least according to sources connected to Hemsworth who have spoken about how he is coping. E! was told by a source earlier this week that Hemsworth was “dealing with a lot. It makes him uncomfortable that everything has been so public,” that source explained. “It’s been a difficult few weeks for him. He’s with his family and just wants to be around people that are going to a support him and try and take his mind off of what’s going on.”
People reported earlier this week that Cyrus has no plans to file for divorce from Hemsworth yet, in part because the two haven’t given up on the idea of reconciling eventually.
“They are having a break right now because they needed it,” a source close to Cyrus said. “It was a bad situation with a lot of disagreements. They both agreed it’s better to spend time apart, but this doesn’t mean their relationship is completely over.”
That source added that “they are great together when they are happy. There is absolutely hope that they will get back together again.
