Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s pen pal fiancé, Ken, reportedly got her family’s approval over a pot of gumbo at a prison gathering—and the couple plan to get married once she’s released.
That’s all according to E! News, who spoke with Fancy Macelli, a family friend working on a forthcoming TV project about Blanchard titled ByProxy. The outlet also obtained a photograph of Ken (no last name reported) here, which shows the engaged couple with Blanchard’s father, Rod Blanchard, and her stepmother, Kristy, several months ago.
Macelli told the outlet that, “Gypsy’s family and her future husband Ken met in person for the first time in March.”
“Everyone had fun getting to know each other over a pot of Gypsy’s father’s famous gumbo,” she said, adding, “Kristy is such a supportive, kind and loving mom to Gypsy.”
Blanchard, 27, is currently serving out a 10-year prison sentence in connection to the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who forced her to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical tests for years. Her co-conspirator and ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in connection to the killing. Her sad, strange life story has been depicted in numerous documentaries, podcasts, and television shows, including Hulu’s The Act, which starred Joey King as Blanchard.
Apparently, Ken contacted Blanchard after watching a documentary about her. “That turned into a relationship through email,” Macelli told E! News. “And then he went and visited her. That was the beginning of this friendship, which turned into something more than a friendship. At the beginning of this year, they decided to get engaged.”
According to Macelli, Blanchard and her fiancé are, “making plans to build a life together once she is released,” but will wait until she’s out of prison to actually have a wedding. She will be eligible for parole when she turns 33 in five years.
“They’ll go together and pick out rings,” Macelli adds, “obviously later, at a time when she’s out and they could do that and have their own intimate moment.”
