Arsenal loanee Calum Chambers clinches Fulham award

Fulham have this afternoon announced that Calum Chambers has been named as the club’s Player of the Season.

Cottagers’ stint

Versatile 24-year-old Chambers made the move to Craven Cottage last summer on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

Having previously been deployed as either a full-back or central-defender during his time with both Southampton and the Gunners, though, Chambers was soon handed a new role with Fulham.

Under the guidance of Slavisa Jokanovic, and then Claudio Ranieri, the 3-time capped English international lined out in a defensive midfield berth, in a bid to provide protection to the Cottagers’ back-4.

And, in spite of Fulham’s widespread struggles over the course of the campaign, Chambers nevertheless went on to impress in his new role.

A play-it-simple composure when in possession, coupled with a fine reading of the game and tenacity when out of it, saw the Arsenal loanee emerge as a standout figure, and something of a fan-favourite at Craven Cottage.

Chambers’ accolade

And, as per the aforementioned announcement on the part of the Championship-bound outfit this afternoon, Chambers has been rewarded for his stellar campaign, with Fulham’s Player of the Season award:

Chambers is now set to return to Arsenal this summer, though it remains to be seen whether he fits into the long-term plans of Gunners’ boss Unai Emery moving forward.
