Van Persie was an incredible player during his time at the Gunners.

In his last season, the Dutchman scored an extremely impressive 37 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

However, Arsenal were struggling to win a Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004.

In the end, Robin van Persie decided to leave Arsenal for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

While he left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Gunners fans, he achieved his goal of winning a Premier League title during his first season.

He would also finish top goalscorer that year.

Now, the Dutch striker has opened up over his move back in 2012.

“If I hurt people, I’m sorry. But that’s me.”

Speaking to the BBC, Van Persie apologised if he hurt Arsenal fans after his exit.

However, he doesn’t regret making the move to Old Trafford, explaining ‘sometimes you feel you need a challenge’.

“I get that the fans were angry with me,” he explained.

“I was the captain, top scorer and we came third that year. But just sometimes you feel you need a challenge, a new adventure.

“If I hurt people, I’m sorry. But that’s me. I made that decision and I stand by it. But that doesn’t mean that I look in a negative way towards Arsenal.

“At the crucial moments, you have to make tough decisions, and it was a very tough decision. But you have to stand behind them and this is what I did.

“I know if you make decisions like that, you’re not going to please everyone. I learned quite a while ago that I will just be myself, I will make decisions about my life and I will accept them.”
